The departure of a key IT leader places a business at a critical conjuncture. Organizations often find themselves with unclear short and long term technology needs. Whether it was an unexpected CIO vacancy or the organization chose to make a change, the result is a void in IT leadership and a potential slowdown in key IT initiatives.
In order to meet this void, the organization may promote a manager from the technology team on an interim basis, or may ask a non-technology executive to temporarily manage the IT group.
